\nNEW JERSEY – A student who sued his principal and school\nfor violating his First Amendment free speech rights settled his\ncase out of court.
Husani Oakley was suspended for five days for distributing\nfliers critical of the Reserve Officers Training Corps at Montclair\nHigh School.
Oakley sued the school board and principal to get his disciplinary\nrecord expunged and to prevent Montclair High School from enforcing\na policy prohibiting the unauthorized distribution of publications.\n
The settlement was reached in 1998. The terms of the settlement\nwere not disclosed.
