There are generally two ways to contact the hotline: schedule a call with our attorneys or fill out our hotline form.
If the matter is urgent, please first complete the form below (Option 2) so that we have all of your information and then call us at (202) 785-5450 during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, Eastern Time, to alert staff so that we expedite your request. Note that our attorneys will not be able to speak with you until you’ve completed the form.
If you are not a student journalist, adviser or someone working directly with student media on a media law issue, please do not use our hotline as we will not be able to assist you.

Option 2: Fill out the form
If you’re a student journalist or assisting student journalists and have a media law-related concern, fill out this form as completely as possible. We need this basic information to accurately answer your questions.
Upon submission, this form goes to the SPLC legal team. We respond as quickly as possible, usually within three business days.
We encourage you to use a personal email or telephone to submit your request. Messages sent or received on an account or computer affiliated with a school or workplace are often not private and, in the case of public employee email, may be subject to disclosure under a state’s open records law. Also, some school email systems will filter messages received from the SPLC and other non-school accounts.
