To discuss the issue, the DOE held public meetings, the last\nof which took place in May.

In addition to new regulations, the DOE also is interested\nin making athletic statistics more accessible to the public, the\nChronicle said.

Under the law, the DOE is to begin to collect reports from\nuniversities this year. It will “analyze the reports and\nsend its findings to Congress in April 2000,” the Chronicle\nsaid.
