Haskins spent more than three decades at The New York Times, where he served in multiple senior editor roles, including as managing editor of The New York Times Magazine. For three years, he directed the Times' Student Journalism Institute, a recruitment and training program for diverse young journalists that placed graduates at the Times and other major newsrooms.

Kate Ortega, director of newsroom operations at Business Insider, joined the SPLC board in January. This month, the organization welcomed Christina Bellantoni, director of USC Annenberg’s Media Center; Rick Hirsch, director of the Collier Prize for State Government Accountability; and James Libresco, a first-year student at Brown University.
