Every month, the Student Press Law Center produces a list of paid internships in journalism. Some with upcoming deadlines include podcasting, magazine writing and working at TV stations across the country.

New York Public Radio (New York)
- Fall Intern — NYPR internships are designed to be a learning experience for sharp, enthusiastic self-starters, with or without radio skills. Our interns do meaningful work across a variety of shows and departments, are an integral part of the team, and assist with all aspects of work. Over the course of the internship term, interns can learn a variety of skills, including reporting, editing, production, field recording, digital audio editing, taping, ProTools, mixing promos, planning live events, research and more.

- Breakthrough Fellow — The Stitcher Breakthrough Fellowship is designed to help recruit diverse talent and promote inclusivity in podcasting. It will provide valuable industry experience and connections, close mentorship, published work for your CV, and the possibility of joining the team at Stitcher full time in the future.

Chicago Magazine (Chicago)
- Editorial intern — Chicago Magazine’s editorial department seeks motivated, enthusiastic journalism students and recent graduates to help with fact checking and story research. Interns are also encouraged to pitch ideas and write for various sections of the magazine.

American City Business Journals (Various Locations)
- Editorial Internship (Charlotte, North Carolina) — The American City Business Journals Editorial Internship Program was started in 1997 as a way to bring strong talent into our newsrooms. As part of the internship program, ACBJ selects interns for 10 paid weeks. Candidates must have published clippings, be able to demonstrate a proficiency for news writing, and express, to the participating editor’s satisfaction, an interest in business journalism as a potential career choice.
- Editorial Internship (Minneapolis, Minnesota) — The successful applicant is a hardworking, conscientious individual who pays attention to details and deadlines and can demonstrate competency in the basics of reporting and writing news. Multimedia experience with photography and video a plus. Intern candidates should have published clips. Preference is given to students interested in pursuing careers in journalism, but others are considered as well.
Seattle Post-Intelligencer (Seattle)
- Part-time Editorial Assistant — The right candidate will assist everyone on the team, and will simultaneously learn every aspect of creating content for the P-I. You’ll be looking for content to showcase on the homepage, packaging it with relevant photos, video, and links, handling social media, writing headlines, assisting in story production, and even doing some writing and field assignments.
KFOR (Oklahoma City)
- News Intern — The primary responsibility is to assist the newsroom with the gathering of information and production of newscasts. Candidate should have a basic understanding of every news process (producing a newscast, shooting a news story, editing a news story, writing a news story, ENG operations, assignment desk operations, prompter operations, control room operations, and web operations.)
KTVI and KLPR (St. Louis, Missouri)
- Digital News Intern — KTVI-FOX2/KPLR11 is looking for a digital intern who has a passion for journalism. The digital intern will help post stories to station websites and social media accounts, including FOX 2 and KPLR 11. Digital interns may be assigned to occasionally shadow newsroom staff to gain experience in their field of study.
- News Intern — The focus of our internship program is to have students gain real-world experience at a TV station. Duties to include but are not limited to the following: Adding wire copy to the website, Writing stories for the website, Taking photos for the websites, Posting to KTVI and KPLR’s social media accounts, Wrangling guests for the 9 a.m. newscast, Assisting the 9am newscast with booking on-air guest segments.
The Modesto Bee (Modesto, California)
- Reporter Intern — Our goals are many. First is to educate and train aspiring journalists in the principles and rigors of their desired profession. Second is to bring new voices to our newsroom to give us fresh perspectives. Third is to put you to work – you will write stories (or shoot photos or program out social plans or make videos).
Richmond Times Dispatch (Richmond, Virginia)
- Reporting interns — The Richmond Times-Dispatch is seeking two intern reporters for the fall. Our 10-week paid internship will start in September. Candidates should have completed some journalism coursework at the college level. Candidates should have experience writing for professional news publications, such as newspapers, magazines and websites. Knowledge of AP Style is required.
TEGNA (Various locations)
- WGRZ News Intern (Buffalo, New York) — WGRZ offers paid internships for college students interested in Careers in Broadcasting and Digital Media. Depending on your focus, assignments would include working closely with show producers and news managers to learn how to craft a compelling, modern and sophisticated newscast, and will work with reporters, social media, web, and production staff to promote on-air content and engage viewers.
- News Intern (St. Louis, Missouri) — Interns will spend time rotating through all news, digital, marketing, and sales departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of station operations. They’ll then choose a specialty on which they can focus for the remainder of their internship.
USA Today Network (Albany, New York)
- Fall Newsroom Intern — Come join a global digital media company of more than 100 media properties across the country. As a Fall Internship Program participant, you will develop, integrate and apply skill sets and experiences in support of newsroom teams. The purpose of the internship experience is to provide opportunities where college (undergrad and grad) students can develop, grow and become the next generation of talent for the Network.
U.S. News & World Report (Washington, D.C.)
- Travel Intern — U.S. News & World Report’s Travel section is seeking a paid 6 month intern to work in our Washington, D.C., office. This intern will be helping with the Best Hotels build-out and data collection, plus other consumer-facing products that support our mission to help people plan the ideal vacation. This position includes a significant amount of copy editing, research and fact-checking.
WGN-TV (Chicago, Illinois)
- Web Producer Intern — WGN-TV, Channel 9 and WGN America are looking for an Assistant Website Producer, intern. The internship will expose the participant to the day-to-day requirements for a local broadcast station as well as a nationally distributed cable network.
WJW-TV (Cleveland, Ohio)
- News Intern — Support live news broadcasts with program content creation. This is an opportunity to learn and participate in the daily production of a fast-paced, major market newscast. Tasks may include writing scripts for live newscasts, creating graphic elements and assisting in story research.
