The Montclair State University president announced Feb. 27 that the student newspaper will soon be independent from the Student Government Association, ending months of disputes between The Montclarion and the SGA. The SGA froze the paper’s budget in January, which prevented the paper from printing its first issue of the semester.The student paper receives its funding from the SGA and officially is a subdivision of the student government. University President Susan A. Cole said in a statement at the Feb. 27 SGA meeting that the administration will formally separate The Montclarion and the SGA by July 1. Cole also promised to ensure the Montclarion had enough funds to print for the rest of the academic year.
