LOUISIANA — John L. Scott, the professor who posted an anonymous Web site criticizing the University of Louisiana at Monroe, came forward and took down the ”Truth of ULM” site on May 22.

\n Richard L. Baxter, a university vice president, filed suits that are still pending in federal and state courts to reveal the name of the Web site creator. In April, he sued the site’s California-based Internet provider, Homestead Technologies, for not removing the page’s alleged defamatory content.

\n By contract, Scott had to protect Homestead from financial harm, so he could either pay the $75,000 in damages that the school was seeking from Homestead or close the site. Scott said he does not fear losing his job.
