Judge says district needs to release Web site logs

NEW HAMPSHIRE — The Exeter School Board voted to make logs of Websites visited by students using school computers available to the publicin November after a county superior court ruled in favor of a father whowanted copies of Web page addresses accessed by children at school. Gillian Abramson, a judge for the Rockingham County Superior Court, ruled that a school district’s Internet usage logs are public records.Districts must make public copies of the logs, which contain just the Website addresses, so people like James Knight, a father of four who broughtthe lawsuit against the school board, can keep tabs on how well schoolofficials attempt to keep students away from pornographic or violent Websites.
