When The (Sumter) Item reporter Denise Jones obtained the names of two murder suspects from a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office press release she did what most reporters usually do: she included them in her story about the Dec. 20 shooting that resulted in the death of a 54-year-old woman during a botched robbery attempt.
What made Jones’ story different
