New national filtering bill introduced

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new national filtering bill that wouldrequire filters on all federally funded computers that are accessibleto minors has been introduced by Congressman Ernest Istook (R-Okla.).

The bill is stricter than Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) Children’sInternet Protection Act that gives schools a discount on theirInternet providers if they use filtering equipment. Public librariesalso are part of McCain’s bill. It was approved by the SenateCommerce Committee in June.
