OHIO — Jennifer Markiewitz, a 1996 graduate of Miami University of Ohio and the former editor in chief of the student newspaper, along with the current editor Emily Herbert are waging a much-watched battle in the journalism community.In Miami Student v. Miami University, the students have taken to the state supreme court their demands for university crime information and access to judicial records. The case is expected to begin in early 1997.Miami University has also been the target of a recent Department of Education investigation. The school is being looked at for possibly violating the federally mandated reporting of crime statistics under the 1990 Campus Security Act.
