A Student Press Law Center analysis this fall found that many school districts in Iowa and West Virginia fail to fully comply with state laws protecting student journalists’ rights, leaving them vulnerable to censorship despite legal safeguards.
March 21 marked the sixth anniversary of Washington’s New Voices law, but a new investigation by the Student Press Law Center finds that many of the state’s school districts still do not have fully compliant student media policies required by the law.
After discovering Olympia School District was not in compliance with New Voices legislation, the Student Press Law Center stepped in to help.
