Making a gift through a donor-advised fund (DAF) is a tax-advantaged way you can support the Student Press Law Center and champion student press freedom.
To recommend a grant or gift to the Student Press Law Center from your DAF, please contact your philanthropic adviser to request a grant distribution. Our Tax ID is: 52-1184647 and address is 1717 K St. NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20006.
When setting up a contribution from your DAF, please reach out to SPLC at giving@splc.org or call 202-785-5450 to notify us. This allows our staff to ensure your contribution is recognized and processed. Have your adviser reach out to us with any questions.
In addition to making a grant, you can also designate the Student Press Law Center as a beneficiary for your donor-advised fund after your lifetime. Please reach out to us with any questions on how you can continue your charitable legacy.
If you don’t have a donor-advised fund, or prefer to give via credit or bank transfer, you can also donate to SPLC online, or view other ways to give here.
Not sure what a DAF is? A DAF is a charitable investment account that provides certain tax advantages and that anyone can open. Think of it somewhat like a retirement account or a health savings account, except it’s money you put aside to invest and donate from to make the world a better place. Here’s how it works:
- Set up and make a gift to your donor-advised fund. As soon as you make your gift to the fund, your contribution becomes eligible for a tax deduction.
- Let your fund grow. While you decide which charities you want to support, your fund is invested and can potentially grow, allowing you to give more funds to your favorite nonprofits like SPLC.
- Support your favorite charity. When you are ready, you can advise your fund to make grants to the nonprofit of your choice either on a one-time or a recurring basis. You can also designate nonprofits like SPLC as beneficiary to receive the remaining funds after your lifetime to continue your charitable legacy.
