Support SPLC as part of your legacy

Ensure your legacy as a defender of student press freedom

You’ve spent a lifetime supporting the First Amendment and the rights of student journalists. You can ensure that we can continue that fight for generations to come by making the Student Press Law Center a part of your legacy.

If you are planning to include the Student Press Law Center in your estate plans, please complete and return this form so we may properly thank you for your contribution.

There are a number of ways you can include SPLC and our mission to promote, support and defend the rights of student journalists and their advisers in your estate plan. You may designate the Student Press Law Center to be the recipient of part of your estate through:

1. A bequest in your will

Sample language: “I give _________ (residue, percentage, or specific amount) to the Student Press Law Center, having its principal offices at 1717 K Street NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20006, for its general purposes to support student journalism. The Tax ID of the Student Press Law Center is 52-1184647.”

If you have named SPLC in your will or trust, it helps us to know in advance so we can thank you and so we can help facilitate the gift after your lifetime. If you prefer not to be acknowledged publicly, we still would like to know you are planning to make this contribution, and will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.

Please contact our development team at 202-785-5450 or giving@splc.org for more information.

2. Donating retirement assets

Because retirement plans are taxed differently than other funds, they can be the least favorable way to leave a gift to loved ones. Leaving retirement assets to a charity is easy and you don’t need a will. Simply update your beneficiary designation form with your plan administrator.

3. Donating a life insurance policy

You can update the beneficiaries of your insurance policy at any time by simply requesting a new form from your insurer. You can name the Student Press Law Center to receive the whole amount or a percentage alongside your loved ones.

4. Directing your donor-advised fund

You can name the Student Press Law Center as a beneficiary of whatever is left in your donor-advised fund after your lifetime. As with retirement accounts and life insurance, it’s as easy as updating your beneficiary form.

If you have named SPLC in your will or trust or as a beneficiary on any of your assets, it helps us to know in advance so we can thank you and so we can help facilitate the gift after your lifetime. Please complete and return this form.

If you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence. Please contact our development team at 202-785-5450 or giving@splc.org for more information.
