This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Student Press Law Center. Since our founding in the fall of 1974, we have fought for and protected the rights of generations of student journalists and their advisers around the United States.
With the disruption to the local news ecosystem in recent years, student journalists have taken on the increased role of covering local and state government and our elections. High school and college students are now producing consequential journalism from well beyond their campus gates, and they face the same legal risks as their professional counterparts and deserve access to the same legal support. Join us in championing the importance of student journalism in our democracy by engaging with our programs and initiatives and supporting our work.
SPLC at 50 Giving Society

During the last 50 years, SPLC has answered more than 50,000 calls from all 50 states and D.C. on our free Legal Hotline, developed dozens of legal guide and presentations, educated thousands of students on current newsgathering and media law issues, organized hundreds of grassroots advocates to pass New Voices laws in 18 states, and promoted the importance of student press freedom to millions of Americans through Student Press Freedom Day.
