Texas 7th grader does jail time for school writing assignment

A Texas seventh grader was released from custody in early November after spending six days behind bars for writing a Halloween horror story as a school assignment that described shooting a teacher and two classmates.

When Christoper Beamon, 13, of Ponder, Tex., turned in his story on Oct. 28, his teacher gave him an “A” plus extra credit for reading the story aloud in class.

His principal called the cops.

Police removed Christopher from school where he was taken before a judge and sentenced to 10 days in juvenile detention.

After the case began to receive national attention, the judge gave in to Beamon’s attorneys’ demands that he be released early. The district attorney has said he will not prosecute the case.

“I was supposed to write a horror story. I don’t think I did anything wrong,” said Beamon.
