SPLC in the Classroom

Let us meet you in your classroom or newsroom!

Invite an SPLC legal expert to speak to your class or newsroom via Zoom. Speakers will join you for up to 40 minutes (including Q & A) and can present on one of these topics:

  • Student press freedom
  • Copyright
  • Freedom of Information / public records
  • Libel
  • Covering protests

Or check out our new offering:

Virtual Newsroom Chats
Instead of a formal presentation, invite an SPLC attorney into your virtual newsroom for a 30-minute Q&A session on any media law topic you’d like (censorship, libel, privacy, access, copyright, reporters’ privilege, etc.). SPLC attorneys Mike Hiestand or Jonathan Gaston-Falk have responded to thousands of legal hotline queries over the years and always enjoy the opportunity to talk with student media staff in a more open-ended, less formal setting. Bring your questions.

All presentations will be conducted on Zoom (you can download Zoom here).

To schedule an expert, please fill out the following form with at least five business days’ advance notice. We request three scheduling options (in eastern time) so that we can best match those with our availability. We’re looking forward to seeing you in your classroom or newsroom!
