We’d like to introduce you to our newest summer interns, Margaret Baum and Allie Russell, as well as Sara Tirrito, who interned with us this spring and is staying on through the summer. You’ll see Margaret, Allie and Sara’s stories on the blog and website, and they’ll both be contributing to our magazine, the Report. We’ve asked them each to introduce themselves:
I will be a senior at San Jose State University in the fall. I’ve spent the last two years in editor positions at my school’s daily newspaper, The Spartan Daily, where I most recently served as the publication’s executive editor. Before that I attended The College of San Mateo, where I worked on the school’s bi-weekly paper, The San Matean. I also held editor positions there for two years while working with the Student Press Law Center to resolve issues with the school’s administration regarding the restructuring of our newspaper and journalism program. After leaving CSM I kept in contact with SPLC and became very interested in interning with the organization and being on the other side. I’m really excited about interning here this summer and will be covering stories related to access to public records and information. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in May with a B.A. in journalism and a concentration in photojournalism. I spent the last school year as the visual managing editor of The Daily Tar Heel, where I was previously a staff photographer before becoming photo editor. I’m passionate about the First Amendment and making sure student journalists know about and use their rights to the fullest, and I’ll be covering censorship issues this summer, so email me or call (703) 807-1904 ext. 119 if you have a story!
I graduated from Baylor University in December with a B.A. in journalism. At Baylor, I worked as an editor and reporter at The Baylor Lariat.
