Free summer workshops offered to h.s. journalism advisers

The American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) isseeking applicants for its third annual High School Journalism Institute.

Approximately 200 journalism advisers will be selected to attend atwo-week, for-credit journalism training program that will take place at sixuniversities during the summer of 2003. Core topics and skills workshopsinclude: reporting, writing, editing, photojournalism, layout and design,opinion pages, the role and future of daily newspapers, journalism credibilityand ethics and the business side of newspapers. First Amendment issues, privacyconcerns and the state of scholastic press freedoms are also key topics.

There is no cost to the teacher or his/her school. With funding helpfrom the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, ASNE will pay fortransportation, lodging, meals, cost of instruction, tuition and graduate credithours.

The deadline for applications is March 14, 2003.
