Hearing date set in college Hazelwood case

Oral arguments have been set before the Seventh Circuit Court ofAppeals in the Governors State University censorship case. The panel of federaljudges will hear arguments in Hosty v. Carter Dec. 10 at 9:30 a.m. in Chicago.

Attorney Richard Goehler of the Cincinnati law firm Frost Brown Toddwill argue before the court on behalf of the Student Press Law Center and acoalition of 24 other state and national media organizations, universityjournalism schools and civil liberties groups. The coalition contends that theSupreme Court’s 1988 Hazelwood decision, which limits high school students’ freeexpression rights, should not be extended to the college press as the IllinoisAttorney General has argued in this case.

The hearing is open to thepublic.
