TENNESSEE — Romantic e-mails are at the heart of a legal battle over privacy at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
\n\n Former university administrator Pamela S. Reed is suing the school for $14 million in damages for invasion of privacy, specifically the release of e-mail messages to the press, which contained evidence of her affair with former President J. Wade Gilley.
\n\n Reed alleges that her co-workers used university property to open her e-mail account and that a private investigator was hired to access her personal files — violations of the school’s policy and the law.
\n\n The case is currently awaiting trial in the U.S. District Court in Knoxville.
