SPLC to Offer Summer Law and Ethics Workshops for High School Advisers. Boston Area Advisers Eligible for Free Trip to Washington, D.C.

There’s no better place to learn about the First Amendment than the nation’s capital. From the chambers of the Supreme Court to the halls of Congress, fundamental issues of press freedom inevitably begin or end here.

From July 5-9, the Student Press Law Center, the Freedom Forum and the Journalism Education Association are teaming up to provide our third summer workshop in the Washington, D.C., area focusing on the First Amendment and student media law.

This unique hands-on workshop will provide high school media advisers with an opportunity to learn about a variety of traditional and cutting-edge issues in student press law and ethics. Discussion will be led by attorneys from the Student Press Law Center with assistance from outside experts. All proceeds support the work of the Student Press Law Center.

The Boston Globe Foundation is offering two scholarships to Boston area teachers that include an all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. (airfare, lodging, meals) as well as registration for the workshop, all books and materials and funding for two graduate credit hours from Kansas State University offered in conjunction with the workshop.
