Help Wanted at the SPLC

The Student Press Law Center is currently seeking to fill the following full-time, paid positions in its Washington, D.C.-area offices:

(1) Student Press Law Center Publications Fellowship: this is a newly created 11-month fellowship position for recent college graduates with experience in editing and news writing for both print and Web-based publications. The position will begin in mid-September 2000 and run through mid-August 2001.

The full-time position will include full health insurance and public transportation benefits and will pay a salary equivalent to $28,000 per year or $2,333 per month.

Applicants with a journalism degree will be given preference, but those with extensive writing and editing experience with student or professional media will be considered as well. The position may be especially appropriate for someone who is considering entering graduate or law school in fall 2001.

(2) Administrative Assistant/ Marketing Manager: This position is our third permanent staff person. We are especially looking for a detail-oriented, friendly and reliable individual who has experience using computers for multiple tasks and has an interest in free expression issues relating to young people. Varied experience in office administration and familiarity with basic financial bookkeeping (and computer accounting programs) is a definite plus. Duties will also include planning and executing marketing of SPLC memberships and publications

The 35-hour/week position will include full health insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation, a retirement plan, public transportation benefits and will pay $24,000-$26,000 per year.
