Nominees sought for Courage in Student Journalism Award

Two awards will be presented. They will go to a deserving middle-or high school journalist and a school administrator who havestood in support of the First Amendment. (The journalist and administratorneed not be from the same school.) · The first $5,000 award will be presented to a studentjournalist who has shown determination, despite difficulty andresistance, in lawfully exercising his or her First Amendmentpress rights. · A second $5,000 award will be presentedto a school administrator who has demonstrated support, underdifficult circumstances, for the First Amendment press rightsof their schools’ student media. Entrants should submit a written description not to exceed 600words of how their cases meet the entry criteria, along with anyrelevant supporting materials or press clips. Deadline: March 31, 2000 Winners will be recognized during a ceremony at the Newseum inMay 2000.
