Virginia high school sued for censoring “banned book” list

A rural Virginia English teacher who placed a list of banned books on his door sued his school in mid-January for ordering him to take down the list. In conjunction with the American Civil Liberties Union, Rockingham County teacher Jeff Newton, four high school students and five groups representing libraries, booksellers and authors filed suit in U.S. District Court in Harrisonburg, Va., alleging that the ordered removal of the banned-book list violated their First Amendment rights.
