Student senate at Univ. of Rhode Island freezes funds

RHODE ISLAND – Staffers at the University of Rhode Island’s (URI) student paper were forced to scramble for money to publish after the student government moved to temporarily freeze the publication’s funding following the running of a controversial cartoon.

“Too many people have been hurt,” said university Student Senate member Anna Zielinski. “Are we going to hide behind this freedom-of-speech crap?”

The statements, documented in the Providence Journal, appeared to mirror the sentiment of other students who disapproved of the drawing.
