Frank LoMonte, Executive Director, is an experienced commercial litigation attorney who joined SPLC after practicing with the Atlanta-based law firm of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and clerking for federal judges on the Northern District of Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Before law school, LoMonte was an award-winning investigative journalist and political columnist in state Capitol bureaus in Florida and Georgia and in Washington, D.C., with the Morris newspaper chain. LoMonte graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was a senior editor of the Georgia Law Review. E-Mail

Adam Goldstein, Attorney Advocate, graduated from Fordham University School of Law in May 2002. He received his undergraduate degree in Internet journalism from Fordham College at Lincoln Center, where he was editor-in-chief of the FCLC Observer. For three years, Goldstein worked as a freelance producer and editor for FoxNews.com.

Mike Hiestand, Legal Consultant, Zenger Consulting, grew up in Alaska and is a graduate of Bartlett High School in Anchorage,
Marquette University's College of Journalism and Cornell Law School. Mr. Hiestand was the Student Press Law Center's staff attorney from 1991-2003. Over the years, he has assisted more than 14,000 student journalists and advisers. He now works from the West Coast as an independent legal consultant to the SPLC. E-Mail |

Beverly Keneagy, Development and Communications Consultant, has more than 20 years experience in development, communications, marketing and public relations. She began her career as a news reporter and has worked as the communications director for several state agencies. She most recently worked for a Florida non-profit, where she was a senior manager overseeing communications and development, securing nearly $5 million annually in funding. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Florida and is a former SPLC intern. E-Mail |

Liz White, McCormick Foundation Publications Fellow, graduated from University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications in May 2008. She worked at the student newspaper, The Daily Gamecock, in various roles including editor-in-chief, and was a part of the inaugural staff to take the paper daily. She also worked at the campus magazine, Garnet&Black, and the journalism school's newspaper, The Carolina Reporter.

Michael Beder, Summer 2009 law clerk, is a second-year juris doctor
candidate at Georgetown University Law Center. Before entering law
school, he was the 2007-08 McCormick Foundation Publications
Fellow at SPLC. He graduated in June 2007 from Northwestern
University's Medill School of Journalism and worked for four years at
the student newspaper, The Daily Northwestern. He also interned as a
reporter and Web producer at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and he was a
Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing intern at the St. Paul Pioneer

Christopher Carter, Summer 2009 intern, is a sophomore at Olympic College. He has
worked for two years at the student newspaper, The Olympian, where he
served in a variety of roles including editor-in-chief, photo editor and
managing editor. He has interned as a news desk reporter for the Kitsap
Sun in Bremerton, Wash. He was the coalition coordinator for the Washington Coalition for Responsible Student Expression 2009 that pushed for Senate Bill 5946 to extend First Amendment rights to students. E-Mail

Catherine MacDonald, Summer 2009 intern, is a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University in
Richmond, Va., where she is a mass communications major with a focus in print
journalism. She has been with The Commonwealth Times since her sophomore

Brian Stewart, Summer 2009 intern, is a junior at the University of Iowa in Iowa City,
where he majors in journalism and English education. He is a metro editor at
The Daily Iowan, the UI's independent daily newspaper. Brian has
also worked as a beat reporter and arts and culture editor at The Daily Iowan
and was a founding senior editor of Off Deadline Magazine, a
