Federal law offers online publishers protection from liability denied to their print counterparts. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, 47 U.S. Code Sec. 230, states that interactive computer service providers (often referred to as ISPs or OSPs) are not liable for information provided by other sources.
For the student media, this could mean broad immunity for content that
is created by non-staff members.
